BIKE TO SCHOOL

National Bike to School Day provides an opportunity for schools across America to join together to celebrate and build off of the energy of National Bike Month.

A local elementary school partakes in this event in my neck of the woods and encourages children to bike to school every year. At the end of their bike ride, they will get a hard-earned sticker to slap on their helmet and treats to reward their arduous journey!

It was fun designing this bright and colorful merchandise for this event in my community. Pope Joan Design Studio donates design services annually to non-profits and those lifting our community. I love engaging and supporting others visually to translate their project’s purpose and meaning into life.

STRATEGY

The brand identity for this Bike to School Day initiative is built around playfulness, movement, and school spirit, making the event feel fun and engaging for young students.

A key design element—the "OO" in "School" transformed into a bike—creates an immediate visual connection between biking and education, reinforcing the event’s core message. This typographic approach not only makes the branding more memorable but also turns the word itself into an interactive and symbolic design.

By pulling colors from the school’s palette and adding some bright ones in to complement them, the visuals feel familiar and inviting, fostering a sense of community pride.

The overall strategy ensures that the design is energetic, accessible, and rewarding, encouraging kids to participate while making the event feel like a celebration. The addition of stickers and treats further amplifies engagement, creating a positive reinforcement loop that builds long-term enthusiasm for biking to school.
